For this class project, we created a backpack from an upcycled material of our choosing. We were provided reference pieces to look at while making the backpack which made the process a bit easier. Luckily, I already knew how to sew so I wasn’t learning from the beginning but I definitely learned a lot of new techniques.
Process:
The first step was to find my material. I went to goodwill and found an old coat with a beautiful pattern I couldn't get my eyes off of. After taking the coat back to my college, I began taking it apart and ripping all the seams apart. I then started cutting the coat apart using the provided template pieces as guides. I sewed the backpack together and from there I only had one last step. I finished the backpack with some patches I bought from the store to add another layer of detail. The finished fully functional backpack is great for everyday or part time use.
